Celebrate SoTL Keynote: Leveraging UBC’s Strength in SoTL

Event Date & Time

  • October 20, 2022
    9:00 am - 10:30 am

Event Description

UBC is an international powerhouse of teaching and learning. At the core of that power is its tradition of valuing and rewarding self-reflection in pedagogy in all members of faculty, and the institutional emphasis on the practice of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning as a primary mission-critical activity.  As such, UBC’s SoTL is now present in all faculties, and all departments, providing a tremendous richness of inquiry, insight and perspective on teaching and learning. UBC is now in an exciting position to leverage the scale at which we are doing SoTL: we can expand and flex our capabilities of collaboration and corroboration across the university, distilling UBC-wide findings on teaching and learning that will strengthen our own pedagogical practices, and will surface those findings beyond our campuses. In this talk I will explore these exciting possibilities.

Presenter:

  • Elisa Baniassad, Associate Professor of Teaching, Department of Computer Science; Deputy Academic Director of the CTLT; and Director of the Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
