Event Date & Time
Event Description
The Program for Open Scholarship and Education (POSE) is a three month flexible and blended program that will help you develop foundational knowledge of Open Scholarship, Open Education, and Open Research. In POSE, we’ll be exploring how open copyright licenses, collaborative practices, and connected technologies have the potential to lower barriers to knowledge by making the processes and products of scholarship more distributed, transparent, and accessible.
POSE 2025 runs from May 1, 2025 to July 31, 2025 and includes one required synchronous session per month.
POSE is intended for faculty, staff, postdocs, and students with an interest in open research, open access, and open education. The program is open to UBCO and UBCV participants. We also invite non-UBC faculty, staff, and students at the post-secondary level to join the conversation.
POSE has been updated for 2025!
To address the impacts of generative AI on scholarly practices, POSE has been updated to include information exploring ethical considerations in AI-generated content, responsible AI tool usage, and emerging ways AI is being used in open educational resource creation, open access publishing, and research. Participants will gain hands-on experience with AI tools, learn to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, and develop an understanding of strategies for how AI is being used in research and teaching practices while upholding principles of open scholarship.
You will learn about:
- Open Education
- Open Access
- Open Research
- Open Tools
- GenAI and Open Scholarship
By completing this program you will gain the tools and strategies to become proficient in supporting and advocating for open practices. POSE is jointly presented by the UBC Open Working Group, the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology and UBC Library.
Program Learning Objectives
- Develop an understanding of open scholarship in higher education and the intersections of each area: open access, education, and research
- Develop strategies to address potential risks and challenges when planning to engage in open practices
- Develop an understanding of how generative AI tools are impacting open scholarship and begin to develop ethical principles or strategies for the use of AI in one’s personal open practices
- Develop the knowledge to support open education, open access and open research projects in personal and institutional settings.
Program Format
To support participant flexibility, the program is composed of online self-paced modules that you can complete over three months. You are also required to participate in three online synchronous sessions during the program. We will also host additional sessions each month where you can engage with various practitioners in the different areas of open scholarship and meet other participants in a synchronous environment. Upon completion, you will receive a Certificate of Completion.
