Inclusive Teaching: Universal Design for Learning – February 10 , 2023

Event Date & Time

  • February 10, 2023
    11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Event Description

Intentionally implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approaches to teaching and learning can bridge accessibility gaps and support equitable/inclusive learning opportunities; therefore, it was one of the main recommendations from UBC’s recent Teaching and Learning Beyond COVID report.

UDL is a framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people, and is based on scientific insights into how humans learn (CAST, 2018).  Although it has been in use since the 1990s, the need for UDL resurfaced during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing supportive guidelines and examples to instructors as they transitioned to teaching online. UDL has continued to be helpful in the transition back to campus and providing hybrid learning opportunities.

This introductory workshop will:

  • Introduce UDL principles, strategies and concrete applications to participants
  • Help propel participants implementation of UDL principles.
