Event Description

Apply by May 15

The CDI will be offered online in May 2024 for faculty members who want to re/design a course they will be offering in September or later. The CDI provides a framework for course design and is not specific to a particular delivery method (such as remote teaching or online delivery).

The Course Design Intensive (CDI) is an intensive program in which participants work, individually and collaboratively, to design or re-design a course they are (or will be) teaching. Throughout the workshop, participants will acquire a broadened understanding of course design concepts, learn to incorporate EDI practices, and gain skills and tools they can apply to their own course. The focus of the workshop is on having participants work with the major concepts and questions that need to be considered as they design a course. Ultimately, the goal of the CDI is to support instructors as they work to enhance their students’ learning.

Application Process

Applications close on May 15, 2024 [deadline extended!].

Once you have completed this initial registration for the CDI, you will be asked to complete a pre-survey to establish your eligibility for the CDI, and to ensure we best meet your needs during the CDI. Once you’ve completed the pre-survey, you’ll be contacted by email to confirm your registration.

Format of the CDI

The CDI is a week-long workshop, with a blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning activities spread throughout the week. We meet collaboratively over Zoom for three of the days, and you are expected to continue to work on your own for two of the days in-between the synchronous meetings. There will be opportunities for consultations and check-ins with facilitators and peers throughout the week to support you along the way. The CDI takes a “flipped” approach to course work, and you will be asked to complete preparatory work prior to each day of the workshop, which we will build upon during our synchronous time together.

May 2024 (Online)

The workshop will take place online the week of May 23-30, 2024.

The three synchronous sessions will take place from 9am until 4pm each day. The CDI relies on the active participation of all learners who, as a team, collaborate to support each other in enhancing their course design. Your active participation and online presence are required on these three days:

  • May 23
  • May 28
  • May 30
