This event is part of the 2024 Celebrate Learning Week, taking place from May 6–10, 2024.

This workshop will explore the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Assessment in Science education through two perspectives–that of the student and that of the educator.  By combining short presentations from members of the teaching and learning community, with break-out activities, and groups discussions, participants will consider AI as it intersects with classroom assessments from both the student and educator perspectives.

First, we will discuss how you may choose to use AI in assignments with your students.  Second, we will discuss how you may choose AI yourself in the development of the assessments.  Participants will leave with resources to help guide them beyond this workshop, and with an appreciation of the opportunities and limitations presented by AI for assessment. Facilitators for this session are all from the Faculty of Science and therefore examples will focus on science-based pedagogy; however, we welcome participants from all Faculties. In order to get the most from this workshop, participants should have some minimum familiarity with Generative AI.

Facilitators:

  • Noureddine Elouazizi, Senior Strategist, AI and Innovation in Learning Technology, Skylight Centre for Learning and Teaching
  • Emma Davy, Science Education Specialist and Honorary Lecturer, Department of Chemistry and Skylight Centre for Learning and Teaching
  • Please note, we will be joined by two additional faculty members from Science
