Online Course Design Showcase Series: You Can’t Do it All, But You Can Do Quite a Bit: Transforming Team-based Learning OSOT 553 Online

Event Date & Time

  • June 22, 2021
    12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Event Description

OSOT 553 Innovations in occupation: Developing and evaluating occupational therapy programs is a course that spans across two terms and is delivered in the second year of the two year Master of Occupational Therapy program. OSOT 553 uses a team-based learning approach to course design and delivery and also works with community partners for 50% of student projects. Typically, OSOT 553 is delivered in person. However, in 2020 the second half of the course had to move fully online.

A 20-minute presentation will take participants through:

  • what guided decision making for transforming the course,
  • how this team-based learning course was delivered online in 2020,
  • how it is being delivered now in 2021, and
  • considerations with resumption of in-person learning for its delivery in 2022.

It will be followed by a 40-minute discussion where participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas. Participants will be encouraged to apply key learnings to their own teaching.

Facilitators:

  • Katie Lee Bunting, MScOT, Reg. OT (BC), Occupational Therapist, Assistant Professor of Teaching & MOT Curriculum Chair, Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy
  • Namsook Jahng, PhD., Educational Consultant: Learning Design, Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology

About the Series:

The Online Course Design Showcase is a monthly event highlighting interesting examples of teaching and learning at UBC. If you are teaching a course via online, hybrid or blended learning methods, please join an innovative UBC instructor and one of our learning designers for a short presentation followed by Q&A and discussion. In this supportive and collaborative environment, there will be a chance to ask questions, interact with instructors, staff and learning designers.

Topics will change month to month. Whether you participate in one or all of these sessions you can expect to:

  • Become aware of innovative online, hybrid, or blended teaching and learning practices at UBC
  • Explore connections to your own teaching and learning context
  • Contribute to a collaborative discussion

This event will be online on Zoom.
