Expand Your Repertoire of Questioning Techniques to Improve Student Learning

Event Date & Time

  • October 22, 2019
    12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Event Description

Effective question strategies can promote students’ comprehension, stimulate critical thinking, and enliven discussion. They can foster student involvement and facilitate a positive, active learning environment.

Despite being a common communication strategy, using questions in teaching and learning is not a given and, as instructors, we may default to the use of “Any questions?” more than than we wish.

In this session, we will explore the use of questions in teaching and learning. You will walk away with a deeper understanding of the value of questions and strategies you can implement in your teaching.

This session is suitable for educators in all disciplines and at any stage of their teaching career.  This is a condensed repeat of a session run during the 2019 CTLT Summer Institute.

By the end of this session, learners will be able to:
1. Describe the value of questioning strategies for enhancing student learning.
2. Describe several questioning strategies and their purpose.
3. Begin to design effective questioning strategies for their own context, while paying close attention to purpose and context.
