Event Description

The formative peer review of teaching is a process designed to provide feedback to instructors about their teaching. It is an opportunity for all involved to engage in collegial conversations about teaching and student learning.

Please join us for this experiential  workshop suitable for reviewers (mentors) and reviewees (mentees) in the peer review of teaching.  The peer review of teaching process introduced in this workshop is intended primarily as a form of formative (and developmental) feedback.

 By the end of this virtual workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the peer review of teaching process
  • Provide constructive feedback for the person being reviewed
  • Conduct appropriate pre- and post-observation meetings
  • Respond to various peer review situations

 Please note:

  • a minimum of 10 participants is needed to run this session; please register before January 20, 2021, so we can confirm the session date/time. 

Facilitators:

Shaya Golparian: At CTLT, Shaya is involved with various teaching development initiatives and programs, including the Formative Graduate Peer Review of Teaching Program, and Instructional Skills and Facilitator Development Workshops. Shaya is an instructor in CTLT’s Certificate Program in Advanced Teaching and Learning, and she also consults with departments to plan, design, deliver and evaluate department-specific teaching skills development for their teaching assistants. Shaya holds a PhD in Curriculum Studies from UBC.

Isabeau Iqbal: At CTLT, Isabeau is involved with various formative peer review of teaching initiatives, consults with instructors on teaching and learning matters, and facilitates processes and workshops designed to improve teaching and student learning in higher education. In addition, Isabeau conducts Small Group Instructional Feedback and works with instructors who are developing their teaching portfolios. Isabeau holds a PhD in Education from UBC.

Judy Chan: At CTLT, Judy develops programs for faculty members, post doc fellows, and staff to support their teaching and learning needs. She has special interests in Using Problems and Cases in the Classroom, Teaching and Learning for the Heart and MindQualitative Research, and more! She coordinates Faculty Instructional Skills Workshops and the CTLT Institute. Judy calls herself a milk protein chemist and explores various food science topics with her students in FNH 200.
