Event Description

Multi-access (UBCO)
This event is part of the 2025 Celebrate Learning Week, taking place from May 5 – 9, 2025.

The Academic Integrity Matters (AIM) program at UBCO provides educational support for students to learn and apply best practices for academic integrity, offering a supportive intervention for students before disciplinary measures are taken for academic integrity violations. Since 2015, AIM has supported over 744 students referred to the program by faculty across different disciplines for academic integrity concerns. Additionally, it offers two Canvas courses with general content for all students, with over 2000 students enrolled for credit in a single term.

Moving forward, materials are needed to support academic integrity education for a diverse range of disciplinary backgrounds, specifically Nursing. This presentation is an interactive panel presentation and discussion about developing discipline-specific academic integrity supports for first year Nursing courses and to connect academic integrity broadly to integrity in the Nursing profession. Speakers will share perspectives from different collaborator roles on the project—manager, faculty partner, and graduate academic assistant—about the process of researching, collaborating, and creating the Canvas course specific to academic integrity in Nursing.

As a reflective workshop, this presentation will also engage the audience through online polls and prompted discussions regarding their ideas and needs about academic integrity in their own fields. In the future, this project will hopefully create a template process for other disciplines and faculties to adapt the academic integrity content to support the students in their programs.

Facilitators:

  • Rina Garcia Chua, Academic Integrity Program Manager, Library, UBCO
  • Melanie Willson, Assistant Professor of Teaching and Associate Director, School of Nursing, UBCO
