UBC Studios: Best Practices In Creating Educational Media

Event Description

This hands-on studio tour will introduce you to the educational media support services available at UBC Studios for all UBC faculty and staff. This open house will include a tour of the studio plus two presentations/workshops related to best practices in educational media.

·  9am – 9:30am UBC Studios Tour

·  9:30am – 11am: A Hands-on Workshop on Best Practices of Using Light Board by Dr. Matthew Yedlin

·  11am – 12pm: Insight into Educational Media from the perspective of the Digital Learning Center from Zurich University of Teacher’s Education by Juerg Fraefel

 

Facilitators:

  • Dr. Matthew Yedlin is a professor from Electrical Engineering that has pushed the boundaries and redefined learning in a university. In this session, you will learn about the Lightboard, how it works, and unique ways to use this tool in order to present your information in clear and engaging ways that encourages student learning. 

  • Jürg Fraefel is the director and co-founder of the Digital Learning Center at the Zurich University of Teacher Education. The Digital Learning Center is responsible for the development and production of media-supported learning arrangements for Master and Bachelor degree programs as well as for programs in further education. The adequate training of the persons involved in the process of development is of particular importance to him. He holds a Master of Arts in Educational Media & Knowledge Management and a Certificate in Organizational Consulting. Jürg has been working in the field of mediated teaching and learning for 20 years and his presentation will feature the ways in which his team teaches educators on how to use media to evolve the methods educators approach teaching and learning.
