Providing Effective Feedback on Writing Assignments

Event Date & Time

  • May 2, 2016
    10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Event Description

This workshop introduces feedback strategies that focus on using educator time efficiently and that encourage students to both use feedback and take responsibility for the quality of their academic writing. The workshop benefits both new and experienced educators by providing participants the opportunity to reflect on their current feedback strategies and to practice some strategies with peers. Most examples discussed will come from the context of teaching science courses, but participants from all disciplines are welcome.
Participants should expect to 1) learn to recognize techniques that provide efficient feedback on writing assignments, 2) practice giving feedback on a piece of writing using revision-focused feedback techniques, and 3) reflect on their own strategies for giving feedback.

This workshop is presented by the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Program. The WAC Program is a collaboration between the Science Centre for Learning and Teaching (SCLT), the UBC Writing Centre, and the Department of Chemistry. It is made possible through generous funds from the TLEF.
