Event Description

Pillar: Transformative Learning

The UBC Educational Leadership Network (ELNET) invites inspired and needing to be inspired teaching faculty, sessionals and graduate students to this market of successful and unique teaching practices and ideas. We invite faculty, sessionals and graduate students to come and present teaching practices you are excited to share and disseminate, or just come and take in all the ideas and suggestions to possibly integrate into your courses making them even better. Those participating in the marketplace are encouraged to bring posters, technology, or other tools/props, handouts etc. that could be used to demonstrate/show your teaching practice. Approaches and practices shared can range from small little tips to major overall course themes or approaches, yet all grounded in scholarly literature.

The session will start with a short address from a senior colleague in the Educational Leadership stream, highlighting the role and path of educational leadership and scholarly approaches to teaching. Short vignettes will then be presented introducing each teaching idea before the marketplace begins. The marketplace will allow each “vendor” to present their practice and address questions and discussion.

There are many excellent instructors doing amazing things in their classroom to enhance student learning, yet the opportunity to share these successes and ideas is limited, as is the time to spend on learning about new teaching practices. We can all benefit from other instructors to enhance our teaching skills and knowledge. This session offers a unique environment for instructors to learn about, develop, try, modify, integrate sound teaching practices and to discuss teaching challenges and successes with colleagues from across disciplines.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:
• Share teaching practices amongst colleagues
• Discover teaching strategies from other faculty that might work well in your classroom/teaching scenario
• Become inspired and confident to try new teaching practices
• Learn of resources and contacts for future teaching practice collaborations to continue teaching excellence development
• Receive feedback on your unique teaching practice to further develop it

If you have an idea/experience/practice you would like to share at the educational leadership marketplace, please reach out to Sally at sally.willis-stewart@ubc.ca.
