Event Date & Time
UBC has committed funds to support the development of capacity and expertise in emerging areas where innovation in learning technology can enhance student learning. Two thematic areas are currently being explored (see below) and Faculty input is needed to identify promising areas, topics and questions for further exploration. This webinar will present details of what these thematic areas are, highlight some of the areas of activity in each of them across UBC, and provide details of how you can get involved by submitting letters of intent for potential pilot investigation areas. (Note that this initiative is distinct from the annual TLEF call for proposals, which will be announced shortly and UBC Okanagan’s ALT Fund call for proposals).
The two thematic areas are:
- Learning Analytics: as part of a major project to develop institutional capacity for the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, we are seeking your input to identify areas from your own experience and expertise that can produce data-driven enhancements to support student learning. What questions do you have about your students’ behaviours, engagement and learning that, through appropriate interrogation of the relevant data, may lead to actionable insights and interventions?
- 3-D learning: what are the ways you would like to be able to visualize and manipulate complex 3-D objects or representations to support student understanding of these elements of your discipline? Across a continuum of activities from interaction with 3-D objects on 2-D surfaces, through mixed- and augmented-reality applications, to virtual reality environments, what are the potential areas of application within your teaching?
