Event Description

Apply by August 5

The CDI will be offered in August 2025 for faculty members who want to re/design a course they will be offering in September or later. The CDI provides a framework for course design and is not specific to a particular delivery method (such as remote teaching or online delivery). More information about this program can be found here.

The Course Design Intensive (CDI) is an intensive program in which participants work, individually and collaboratively, to design or re-design a course they are (or will be) teaching. Throughout the workshop, participants will acquire a broadened understanding of course design concepts, learn to incorporate EDI practices, and gain skills and tools they can apply to their own course. The focus of the workshop is on having participants work with the major concepts and questions that need to be considered as they design a course. Ultimately, the goal of the CDI is to support instructors as they work to enhance their students’ learning.

Application Process

Applications close on August 5, 2025

During this application process for the CDI, you will be asked about details of your course, your previous course design experience, your teaching experience, and your learning goals for the CDI. The facilitators of the CDI will review your application and contact you by email in about two weeks.

Format of the CDI

The CDI is a three-week workshop that combines synchronous and asynchronous learning activities. In the first week, you’ll engage in independent reading and reflection through guided activities on Canvas. We’ll then meet in person on August 11 to share insights and consolidate our learning.
Following this, you’ll continue developing your course independently while participating in collaborative Zoom sessions focused on key aspects of course design. Throughout the next two weeks, there will also be opportunities for consultations and check-ins with facilitators.
The CDI follows a “flipped” model, meaning you’ll complete preparatory work ahead of each session, which we’ll build upon during our synchronous meetings. We’ll reconvene in person on August 25 to refine your course design and prepare for a strong start to the teaching term.
