Developing Your Teaching Portfolio and Philosophy

Event Date & Time

  • January 16, 2020
    3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Description

***Note: This session is intended for Graduate Students, and Undergraduate and Graduate TAs only. We invite Faculty and Staff to sign up for our sessions during CTLT’s Spring, Summer, and Winter Institutes.

Do you want to pursue a career in teaching? If so, then this workshop is a must! Together, we will break down the components of a teaching portfolio and how to make your own. You will also participate in a guided reflection to help you think about your TA and other teaching/learning experiences to identify your strengths and values as a teacher so that you can prepare your own teaching philosophy.

This workshop will benefit both experienced and new TAs! Feel free to bring a draft of your teaching philosophy if you have one as you will have a chance to expand on and assess it (but it is not required for participation).

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Identify the main components of a teaching portfolio
  • Reflect on and evaluate the value of your TA and/or non-instructor experiences
  • Brainstorm specific examples to contribute to your teaching portfolio based on your teaching/learning experiences
  • Outline a first draft of your teaching philosophy

Eligibility

The TA Institute is open to all undergraduate TAs, graduate students who are interested in teaching, and all graduate student TAs. This session is not open to general undergraduate students, post-doctoral fellows, staff, or faculty.
