Session pre-requisites:
Participants are highly encouraged to have attended An Introduction to Teaching Philosophy Statements or watched the recording. The recording can be found at CTLT’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ctltresources.
Building on the introductory session, this workshop gives you hands-on time to develop and refine your teaching philosophy statement. You’ll work with writing prompts to expand your ideas, then exchange constructive feedback in small groups using a straightforward and supportive process.
Whether you’re shaping your first draft or strengthening an existing one, you’ll leave with clearer language, fresh perspectives, and a plan for your next round of revisions.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Expand or refine sections of your teaching philosophy statement (TPS) through guided prompts.
- Offer and receive constructive peer feedback to strengthen your TPS.
- Identify strengths and areas for development in your own statement.
- Outline next steps to continue developing your TPS.
If you’re unable to make it to this session and are looking for support with your teaching philosophy session, see the Teaching Portfolio section of our website (https://ctlt.ubc.ca/resources/teaching/portfolios/ ) or contact Isabeau Iqbal for a consultation (isabeau.iqbal@ubc.ca).
