When preparing teaching materials—whether slides, online modules, readings, or problem sets—you may want to include content from various sources. Fortunately, millions of openly licensed resources are freely available, ranging from full courses and textbooks to test banks, images, and videos. This session introduces the essentials of Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP), focusing on the practical aspects of finding, reusing, and adapting materials. We’ll explore what makes a resource “open,” the benefits of using OER in teaching and learning, and how open practices—such as open assignments and collaboration—can foster more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable learning environments.
