Eligibility
The TA Institute is open to undergraduate and graduate TAs, and all graduate students who are interested in teaching. This session is not open to staff, or faculty.
Event Description
How do the ways we speak as instructors shape the discussions our students have? In this workshop, we will explore Teacher Discourse Moves (TDMs), a practical framework for understanding how instructors guide, respond to, and deepen classroom discussions.
Drawing on research-informed principles, this session will translate the TDM framework into concrete skills that TAs can use across teaching contexts, including tutorials, labs, and lectures in both in-person and online settings.
We also invite you to bring questions or concerns about facilitating discussions in your own teaching. Together, we will explore strategies for navigating challenging moments and fostering supportive, student-centered dialogue.
