Designing your Canvas Course

Designing Your Canvas Course is a hands-on, 90-minute workshop for faculty and staff who are new or would like to explore effective Canvas practices. Whether you are building your first course or refreshing an existing one, this session will guide you through the essential steps to set up a well-structured, accessible, and engaging course.

We will start by exploring the Canvas dashboard and navigation tools, then move into creating a logical course structure using modules. You will learn how to add and format content such as pages, assignments, discussions, and quizzes, while incorporating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure an inclusive experience for all learners.

Throughout the session, we will highlight practical tips for clear communication, consistent organization, and student engagement. By the end, you will have the skills to confidently publish your course and manage it throughout the term. This workshop includes guided practice and time for questions, so you leave ready to design a course that works for both you and your students.

Note: To get the most out of this workshop, please bring a laptop or mobile device for hands-on learning.
