An annual celebration, Open Education Week (OE Week) is an opportunity for actively sharing and learning about the latest achievements in Open Education.
Designing Interactive OER and Course Content with H5P
Interactive content is one way to encourage learners to engage more deeply with the materials. This is where H5P comes in, providing a simple way to build that interactivity into your existing resources. H5P is a free, open-source tool that enables users to create a wide array of interactive teaching and learning elements to increase engagement within OERs and other course content. Currently, H5P contains over 50 interactive elements that can be used to embed self-check questions with immediate feedback, organize complex content into navigable interactive content, or bundle various media and activities into comprehensive, structured learning modules.
In this session, we will provide an overview of H5P, share important considerations for using it within open educational resources, and guide participants through the process of developing their own H5P content.

Creating Accessible OER and Course Materials
Are you updating your course content or developing and incorporating open educational resources (OER) into your teaching and learning? Join us for a workshop about how to design or adapt OER and other learning materials so they are more accessible for all learners. We’ll start with a demonstration of different content styles and formats, explore how layout/format choices affect different users, and discuss how simple choices made in the planning phase can make big improvements for the accessibility of those resources.

Enhancing Student Learning through Open Assignments
Open pedagogy applies the principles of openness to teaching and learning, giving students greater control and agency in their own education as well as aligning their work with the academic mission of the University. It combines strategies and technologies that support collaboration, co-creation, and shared knowledge. UBC Blogs and the UBC Wiki are powerful platforms for enabling student and supporting open assignments where students contribute as creators of knowledge and learning resources.
This session will explore practical approaches to using blogs and wikis for open assignments including best practices for course and project organization and enabling student collaboration.
