Facilitative Teaching

Session Format:
Online

Eligibility

The TA Institute is open to undergraduate and graduate TAs, and all graduate students who are interested in teaching. This session is not open to staff, or faculty.

Event Description:

What does it mean to teach with your learners rather than at them? Facilitative teaching is an approach that prioritizes guiding, supporting, and co-constructing learning with students. In this session, we will explore what facilitative teaching can look like in their context and examine how subtle shifts in stance, language, and classroom structures can empower students to take greater ownership of their learning.

Participants will consider how to create learning spaces that foster curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking. We will also discuss common challenges and identify facilitative techniques that can help instructors respond constructively.
