Series: Pro-D for New Faculty
Event Date & Time
Event Description
Join us for the Opening Session of CTLT’s Summer Institute!
The 2025 New Faculty Teaching Orientation opening session is designed to launch your teaching journey at UBC with confidence and connection. This year’s agenda is full of valuable sessions and activities designed to help you settle into your new role and thrive as a faculty member at UBC.
We’re honoured to begin the day with an in-person welcome from UBC President Benoit-Antoine Bacon, followed by a keynote address from Simon Bates, Vice Provost and Associate Vice President, Teaching and Learning, who will share insights into UBC’s teaching and learning culture.
You’ll also hear from experienced colleagues during our Faculty Panel, where you’ll learn from their practical tips and honest reflections about what it’s really like to teach here. Finally, learn more about our UBC students—discovering the rich diversity and perspectives they bring to every classroom.
We’re also introducing the UBC Resource Tables — an informal networking space where you can meet key campus support teams, get your questions answered, and discover the services available to enhance your teaching. It’s a great opportunity to connect, explore resources, and build your support network at UBC.
Throughout the 2025 Summer Institute week, you’ll have opportunities to share ideas with fellow new faculty, explore innovative teaching practices, and become part of UBC’s vibrant academic community.
Lunch will be provided to keep the conversations going.
Come ready to learn, connect, and begin this exciting chapter of your career at UBC.
