Kindness-Informed Pedagogies to Support Justice-Based 21st Century Learning

Session Format:
In-Person

Kindness-informed pedagogies could be a tool for transformation (Magnet et al., 2014) that “challenges learners to see beyond their existing world views to appreciate and value self and others” (Gorny-Wegrzyn & Perry, 2021, p. 228) while centering compassion and critical awareness. In this session, we will explore pedagogies of kindness and share approaches that facilitate relationality and learning. The session will begin with an overview of kindness-related pedagogies, including pedagogy of kindness, pedagogy of care, trauma-informed pedagogy, resilience pedagogy, embodied pedagogy, and eco-pedagogy. Participants will explore ways to integrate pedagogical approaches in teaching and learning while practicing key methods that advance learning through compassionate reflection.
