    1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Event Description

Please note: This event has been cancelled.

During this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore a new learning resource developed through Indigenous Initiatives, The Power of a Name. This learning resource includes a film series and website that examine the complex history of building names at UBC’s Totem Park Residence, and features stories of relationships between UBC and Indigenous communities. Since 2011, Musqueam has gifted three place names to Student Housing and Hospitality Services that connect residents to the territories they reside on, and the language of the Musqueam people, hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓. The original houses named in the 1960s were chosen without community consultation.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

– Deepen their understanding of UBC-Indigenous relations and access resources to further their learning

– Explore ways of integrating the learning resource into their teaching or daily practice

– Engage in conversations to support critical dialogues beyond the session

Note: Please bring a laptop to this workshop. There will be a a few laptops available if needed.
