If you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there? We will discuss both individual lesson planning and its relation to designing whole course experiences. You will get the opportunity to design a lesson using the SET-BODY-CLOSE model, and get feedback from your colleagues.
Facilitators:
Jim Sibley, Director of Centre for Instructional Support, Applied Science
Amanda Bradley, Senior Instructor, Medicine
Jim Sibley, Director of Centre for Instructional Support, Applied Science
Jim Sibley is Director of the Centre for Instructional Support at the Faculty of Applied Science. As a faculty developer, his current focus includes the implementation of Team-Based Learning in large class settings, new faculty orientation, course design, and developing his own online peer evaluation software (iPeer). The Centre for Instructional Support serves six engineering departments, a School of Nursing, and a School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. Jim has over 28 years experience in faculty support and training, web design, and managing software development at UBC.
Amanda Bradley, Senior Instructor, Medicine
Amanda has a BSc in Biochemistry and a PhD in Experimental Pathology. Her background in basic science research fueled a love of learning that grew stronger with teaching and interacting with students and teaching colleagues. Amanda has the fortune of having a thoroughly enjoyable diversity of teaching opportunities including small group Problem Based Learning, small and large classroom interactive lectures, and student self-directed projects. She also co-coordinates a “seminar course” in which students learn how to: teach effectively, give and receive feedback, and critically appraise scientific articles.
