The wide range of web-based social media tools offers exciting teaching and learning possibilities. These tools offer useful platforms for supporting publishing by students and instructors, as well reflection and collaboration across the course and beyond.
This session will provide a survey introduction to the most popular online tools and environments, with a special focus on how educators can use them effectively. It will provide an overview of systems supported by UBC (such as blogs and wikis) as well as externally-hosted services such as Twitter and YouTube. In addition to discussing the pedagogical implications of these tools, there will also be brief examinations of concerns such as privacy and copyright.
This is an introductory session, and familiarity with these applications is not required. But please bring your questions and your ideas.
