Conflict is inevitable. If not properly managed, it can become confrontational, personally stressful and unproductive. We experience these challenges in a variety of places. In our classrooms, we may have to have difficult conversations with our students about a disputed mark, disruptive or overbearing behavior, required extensions on assignments, amongst others. It is possible to have these talks in a respectful and honouring way. In this workshop, you will discover how conflict can be productive and even joyful. In this workshop, based on ‘Joy of Conflict’, a book by experienced facilitator and mediator Gary Harper, you will learn how to move beyond confrontational stalemates and address conflicts productively. Specifically, you will be able to make sense of the conflict you encounter with students, discover the antecedents of such conflict, manage conflict and move smoothly towards resolutions in your classrooms. Please join us for this half-day session with Gary Harper focused on issues and challenges that may occur between an instructor or TA, and students. Refreshments will be provided.
