This session will provide the building blocks for lesson planning that we’ve found most effective at CTLT, to make your own planning for seminars easier and effective. As well as a basic lesson plan rubric transferable to seminars in all disciplines, this session will cover concrete and specific techniques to help teaching assistants ask effective questions, as well as facilitate student participation that moves beyond the conventional ‘question and response’ seminar model and strategies for in-class assessment. This session will also cover specific methods for preparing for and preventing the trickier ‘social’ aspects of seminars. Participants will also problem-solve how to apply this arsenal of practical techniques in the context of their particular field of study, specific learning goals, and various social dynamics.
Please arrive at 9:45am to grab a coffee or tea from the kitchen and get settled for the session. Please note, that if you cannot attend, we must be notified immediately so that we can open your spot to someone on the waiting list.
