    1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Event Description

⚒ Hands-on Session Type

Canvas Commons is UBC’s new learning object repository that enables instructors to find, import, and share resources with UBC and the public. A worldwide library full of open educational content, the Canvas Commons allow UBC users to discover and find a broad range of subject specific resources from course design elements to problems sets. Join us for a 90 minute workshop to explore Canvas Commons features that include:

  • Access to openly available resources: You can search through a broad range of open resources created at UBC and beyond that can be added and deployed in your course in minutes.
  • Sharing on your terms: You determine how and to what extent other users can reuse your original course content. Additionally, your course content is safe in your own course shell. By hosting it in the Canvas Commons, you are simply allowing users to import your shared content into their courses.
  • Handy backup: When sharing a course into the Canvas Commons, a copy is created and stored, which can work like a personal learning object repository.
  • Quick, easy, and fast functionality: Sharing to the Commons, for a typical Canvas course, takes less than a minute.

This hands-on session will focus on the pragmatic elements of working with Canvas Commons, including how to find and import resources, best practices for sharing your educational materials, and the basics of working with open educational resources that are licensed to allow revision and reuse.

Open to the UBC Community. Please bring your OWN COMPUTER. A basic knowledge of Canvas is required.
